10 WED 7PM REFRESHMENTS / 7:30PM PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE 2012 BIONEERS CONFERENCE - The Bioneers Conference is a “gathering of scientific and social innovators who have demonstrated visionary and practical models for restoring the Earth and communities.” Nikki Coddington shares conference highlights and shows portions of keynote presentations by speakers such as Paul Hawken and Bill McKibben. Discuss possibilities for applying some of the ideas locally. Program presented in partnership with the Sierra Club Lower Hudson Group; designed for adults and high school students. FREE

8 WED 7PM REFRESHMENTS/7:30PM PROGRAM: WHAT'S THE BUZZ WITH HONEYBEES? - Enter into the busy life of a honeybee hive with GNC Naturalist Greg Wechegelaer. Learn why and how these amazing creatures are critical players in our own lives and global economy. Greg will also discuss the threats currently faced by honeybees, and how what harms bees threatens us in turn. The evening will include a taste test of some local honeys. Program presented in partnership with the Sierra Club Lower Hudson Group; designed for adults and high school students. FREE

12 WED 7PM REFRESHMENTS/7:30PM PROGRAM: REPLACING THE GREEN DESERT: NATIVE PLANT ALTERNATIVES TO TURF – No matter how small your property, you can help provide food and shelter for birds, pollinators, butterflies, and other beneficial creatures by replacing “green desert” (aka lawn or turf) with native plant alternatives. Kim Eierman, CH, AOLCP, Founder, EcoBeneficial Horticulture Consulting & Communications will help you to re-imagine your property with beautiful alternatives suitable for different site conditions, including native grasses and sedges, groundcovers, meadows and meadow-like gardens.
