Internships

The Greenburgh Nature Center (GNC) offers two six-month internships annually. One runs January through June and one runs July through December.

The GNC is located 40 minutes north of New York City. The Center is a 33-acre woodland preserve, with trails, pond, gardens, and outdoor animal exhibits. Our indoor exhibits include a live animal museum, exhibit rooms focusing on nature and the environment, and a greenhouse.

The two principal roles of the intern are (1) to teach nature and animal programs and (2) to assist in the care and maintenance of the Center’s animals and their facilities and to present animals to the visiting public. The primary participants in our educational programs and our Animal Museum visits are children between the ages of 2 to 8. The intern is also expected to help supervise the activities of the high school volunteers who help in our Animal Museum. We provide training for the teaching of our educational programs and the care of our animals.

Internship Qualifications

• Driver's license
• 18 years of age or older
• Experience with children and/or animals
• A genuine liking and interest in the environment, children, and animals
• College major in a related field (e.g., natural sciences, pre-vet, education, etc.)

Compensation

$200.00 per week, plus a furnished room located in the GNC with adjacent bath. Kitchen facilities are located on-site.

Work Days and Hours

9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and Saturday. (Sunday work is also required approximately twice per internship, when we run special events that require full staff participation.)
