About Us

Our History

In 1973, the residents of the Town of Greenburgh voted to allocate funds for the purchase of what was then known as the "Hall Estate." Funds were also secured by a federal grant, through the Land Water Conservation Fund. This was the first Greenburgh property acquired specifically for the purpose of protecting wildlife. In 1975, the Hall Estate became officially known as the Greenburgh Nature Center (GNC).

From the beginning, the group working to save the "Hall Estate" believed that the GNC should be a refuge for wildlife, with an active educational program to promote the appreciation and understanding of nature and the environment.

Today, the GNC is a 33-acre nature preserve with trails, a pond, an old orchard succesion site, and gardens. More than 70,000 visitors come to the GNC each year.
