With heavy hearts, we remember a beloved member of our team, Jim Dauterman, who dedicated himself to the Greenburgh Nature Center and touched the lives of all who knew him. Jim’s unwavering commitment as our Volunteer Coordinator leaves behind an enduring legacy, one filled with passion, kindness, and a profound love for nature.

Jim worked with us for a little over a year but his impact was immense. He brought with him his extensive knowledge of animal care and zoology and shared that passion with staff, volunteers, and our visitors. He could be seen feeding our animals, spending quality time with one of our rabbits, or reading his favorite fantasy book. His laugh was contagious and he would always stop to chat about his favorite Star Wars movies or the scores of the last Yankee game. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of sports, and a love for classic rock with Led Zeppelin and Heart being amongst his favorite bands.

Before coming to work with us, Jim spent years at both the Bronx Zoo and the Norwalk Maritime Aquarium demonstrating his lifelong mission to supporting wildlife and educating the next generation on the wonders of the natural world. We will remember him for his dedication to our organization and we will continue his legacy of environmental stewardship.
