In June 2018, the Greenburgh Nature Center was selected to receive the prestigious Charles W. Brown, Jr. Sustainability Award for Visionary Leadership and Commitment to Sustainability from the Green Business Partnership.

Westchester County Eco Award

Westchester County acknowledged the Town of Greenburgh in partnership with the Greenburgh Nature Center with a Westchester County Eco Award for the launch of the largest voluntary residential food scrap recycling program in Westchester County in June 2018.

We introduced a pilot food scrap recycling program in the summer of 2015 about the benefits of composting using on-site zero-waste sorting stations. Since then, we’ve been teaching local public schools on how to implement comprehensive recycling and composting as part of their daily operations.

Greenburgh’s food scrap recycling program now gives residents the opportunity to collect food scraps in countertop pails and divert these scraps from the waste stream.

Westchester County Earth Day Award

In April 2017, we received the Westchester County Earth Day Award in recognition of our sustainability education in schools as well as our community outreach for solar energy on homes and businesses.

Outstanding Achievement in Land Use

The Green Business Partnership awarded us for Outstanding Achievement in Land Use in June of 2016. We were recognized for our commitment to land stewardship through practices such as leaf mulching, grass cycling, and native plantings.

Westchester Green Business Challenge Certification

We were the first nature center to be awarded Green Business certification in 2016 for our dedication in adhering to best sustainable practices in the workplace and the importance of reducing carbon footprint.
