The Greenburgh Nature Center is a beloved retreat because of its peaceful, relaxing setting. Come and enjoy our rambling forest trails, flourishing native meadow, seasonal organic gardens, Native American Replica Structures, and open green spaces. Your eyes and ears may lead you to one of our many outdoor animal habitats surrounding the Manor House. Areas around the Manor House and Great Lawn are accessible for babies in strollers, toddlers, visitors with hiking sticks and all those in between.

Here’s a sampling of what you will experience:

Sulcata Barnyard
Visit our Sulcata Tortoise’s in their new barn which is located next to the main path to the manor house.

Barnyard
Visit our goats and chickens in our barnyard.

Birds of Prey
The Nature Center cares for many non-releasable, native New York birds of prey. Come and see our majestic eagles and owl, and listen as our white-necked raven, Zhou-Zhou, often mimics human speech.

Native American Replica Structures
Visit replicas of our Native American structures and see the designs and techniques used 6,000 years ago by Eastern Woodland Indians. Set on two sites, the replicas include a life-sized wigwam, longhouse, dugout canoe and hide drying rack.

Nature Discovery’s Playground
Not just another set of slides and swings, our playground is nestled within the natural setting of our forest.

Organic Garden
In season, our demonstration garden showcases organic approaches to garden design, planting, cultivating and harvesting of fresh vegetables and herbs.

Native Plant Meadow
Planted with a wide variety of local species, this meadow is an incredibly beautiful place to spend quiet time.

Butterfly Arbor
This exhibit is typically open July through August. The arbor highlights butterflies found throughout the United States.

Beehives
Check out our industrious honeybees that provide an invaluable service pollinating the plants and flowers surrounding our grounds.

Great Lawn
Centrally located among our 33 acres, the Great Lawn provides an ideal space to start your nature adventure. Adjacent to the Great Lawn is the Nature Center’s Discovery Playground, a trail to the Native Plant Meadow, as well as an organic garden and outdoor wooden stage. The Great Lawn is a wonderful place to rest and enjoy the beauty of nature in all seasons.
